PUTTING “ASSES” IN SEATS ON ELECTION NIGHTAt Chow Foods’ six Seattle restaurants, free entrees served at poll-closing tomorrow night in anticipation of a Democratic sweepSEATTLE—(November 6, 2006)—They may be making “asses” of themselves, but Seattle restaurant partners Peter Levy and Jeremy Hardy are so confident this year’s election will bring a Democratic Party majority to the houses of Congress, there’s a free meal in it at poll-closing, no matter the outcome. Voting age guests seated at any of the duo’s six neighborhood Chow Foods restaurants at the exact moment that the polls close at 8pm on Tuesday will each enjoy an “on the house” entree. They’ve dubbed this political dishing event, “Christmas come early for the Democrats.” Whether “asses” land in seats to dine free in their restaurants, or end up in the other Washington to check the Republican leadership, the event is history in the making. “In all the years we’ve run Chow Foods restaurants, the one thing we’ve restrained from putting on the table is politics,” Levy said. “I think many people have known that Jeremy and I are not exactly right-wing Republicans, but now we’re saying it, and we hope this election will be the first step in rolling this country down the right—uh, left track.” Not only are voting age customers seated at poll-closing time rewarded with free entrees (one each), but they will also receive a bold, commemorative keepsake placemat which spoofs Santa and his reindeer. The drawing replaces the holiday scene with President George W. Bush, his cabinet members and advisors as caricatures dressed in their election-day best. Also on the placemat, politicized lyrics replace classic caroling songs to encourage guests to sing along. The placemat was illustrated by Matt Neyens, a long-time waiter and bartender at The 5 Spot in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. The placemat will also be available for free downloading on the company’s website, www.chowfoods.com. Stop by any of the six Chow Foods restaurants tomorrow night, and those with their “asses” in a seat when the polls close at 8 p.m. will receive the take-home, commemorative placemat at their setting to serve as their meal voucher, good for one free entrée on the spot. (one per person, beverages and gratuity are not included with the offer). Hardy adds, “We’re buying the meal but any ‘celebratory booze’ or ‘cry in your beer’ beverages are on you”.
